Problem:
- Old silver and composite fillings are present in the molars and second premolar respectively.
-
The edges of the fillings are not sealed. This allows food and bacteria underneath the fillings causing decay. The first molar is also fractured on the side.
-
The old silver fillings make the teeth appear gray in colour.
- After the removal of the composite and silver fillings, as well as the decay, significant tooth structure is missing in the premolar and first molar.
Solution:
- Because of the large amount of tooth structure missing porcelain inlays are placed on the first molar and premolar to provide proper fit, contour and support.
- Composite bonding material is placed in the second molar where less tooth structure is missing.
- The tooth-coloured porcelain onlays and composite bonding matrial blend into the natural tooth colour in a more natural and esthetic smile.
